An engagement ring is the most consequential piece of jewelry most people will ever buy. At Rosenberg Diamonds, every ring is built around a single hand-selected natural diamond — GIA-certified and matched to a setting in our New York atelier. We do not sell pre-made rings off a shelf; each piece is fabricated once a stone is chosen.
This collection spans the three classic engagement-ring archetypes: the solitaire (one diamond, one ring, no distractions), the three-stone (a center diamond flanked by tapered baguettes, trillions, or smaller rounds), and the halo (a pavé frame that visually enlarges the center stone). Carat weights run from 1 to above 10 carats, with the densest band between 1.5 and 4 carats — the range where most clients land.
Cut choice is the most important visual decision after carat weight. Round brilliants deliver maximum fire and forgive lower color grades; ovals and cushions stretch on the finger and read larger per carat; emerald and asscher cuts offer architectural elegance but demand higher clarity. David Rosenberg works with you on stone selection, metal, and setting design — typical lead time on a custom piece is 4–6 weeks.

How to Choose an Engagement Ring Diamond
The order of decisions matters. Start with shape — it’s a style choice, not a quality choice, and it shapes every subsequent decision. Round brilliants are the most expensive per carat because they waste the most rough during cutting; fancy shapes (oval, cushion, pear, marquise, emerald, radiant) deliver more visual size at the same carat weight for a lower price per carat.
Next, set a carat target based on hand size and budget. A 1-carat round on an average finger reads as a clear solitaire; a 2-carat reads as a statement; above 3 carats the diamond dominates the hand. Fancy shapes elongate, so a 2-carat oval often visually matches a 2.5-carat round.
Then dial in color and clarity. For round, cushion, and oval cuts, G–H VS1–VS2 is the practical sweet spot — face-up colorless and eye-clean. For emerald and asscher cuts (step cuts), push to F–G VVS2–VS1 because the long open facets reveal both tint and inclusions more easily. Cut grade on round brilliants should be Excellent — anything less leaks light and dulls the stone.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much should I spend on an engagement ring?
The old "two months' salary" rule is marketing, not advice. Most of our engagement-ring clients fall between $10,000 and $60,000, with the densest band around $15,000–$30,000 for a 1.5–2.5 carat round or oval in G/VS quality. Above $100,000 you're in collector territory — D Flawless, fancy color, or weights above 5 carats.
How long does a custom engagement ring take?
Lead time on a custom piece is typically 4–6 weeks from stone selection to delivery. Rush builds (2–3 weeks) are possible on classic designs with available center stones. Highly intricate pavé or three-stone designs with bespoke side stones can run 8 weeks.
Which diamond shape looks the largest per carat?
Elongated fancy shapes — oval, marquise, pear, and emerald cut — read visually larger than rounds at the same carat weight because more of the stone sits face-up. A 2-carat oval typically reads close to a 2.5-carat round on the finger.
Can I upgrade the center stone later?
Yes. We offer a lifetime upgrade program: trade in your original Rosenberg-certified diamond at full original purchase price toward a larger or higher-grade stone of at least 2x the trade-in value. The setting stays, or can be remade around the new stone.
